miyou privacy policy

Effective October 19, 2026

The short version

miyou needs no account and has no ads and no tracking. Your food log, weight, water, goals and profile are stored on your iPhone; an account is optional and only used for an end-to-end encrypted backup that miyou can't read. If you join a team, only the daily ticks you choose are shared with it (see Teams). We never sell your data or share it with anyone else.

What stays on your phone

Everything you log and every answer you give during setup (goal, sex, age, height, weight, activity and diet style). Your answers are used only to calculate your targets, on the phone. Delete the app, or use Settings › Delete all data, and it's gone. Your own device backups (such as iCloud Backup) may include it, under your device settings.

Describing or saying a meal

When you describe a meal in words, it is understood entirely on your iPhone. When you speak, Apple's speech recognition turns your words into text, on the device where your iPhone supports it; miyou never stores the audio. Neither the text nor the audio is sent to miyou.

Apple Health (optional)

Only if you connect it, miyou reads active calories and body weight from Apple Health, and saves the calories, protein, carbs, fat, the fiber, sugars, cholesterol, vitamins and minerals your foods list, water and weight you log. Only if you also turn on Recovery, it reads your sleep, resting heart rate and heart rate variability, read only, to compare each day with your own usual. This data moves between miyou and Health on your iPhone only. It is never sent to miyou's server or anyone else, never used for advertising, and you can change or revoke access at any time in Settings › Health. The one exception is your daily step count, and only if you choose to share it with a team (see Teams).

Widgets, Siri and Apple Watch

Widgets, Siri, Shortcuts, Control Center and the Apple Watch app show and update the same data, on your devices. Nothing passes through miyou's server.

Scanning and searching

To look up a barcode or a product name, miyou sends only that barcode or those words to OpenFoodFacts (openfoodfacts.org), a non-profit open food database, and loads product photos from it. No personal data or log data is sent. Like any website, OpenFoodFacts sees your IP address; see openfoodfacts.org/privacy. The camera reads barcodes on the phone; those images are never stored or uploaded.

Teams (optional)

Only if you create or join a team, miyou's server keeps: a random member ID and a scrambled copy (a hash) of a random key that stays in your iPhone's Keychain, instead of an account, email or phone number; the nickname, emoji and color you choose; the teams you're in and the challenges they run; and the daily ticks you choose to share, which your teammates see: whether you logged that day, your logging streak, whether it was a Perfect Day, whether you reached your protein target and your water goal and, only if you turn it on, your step count from Apple Health. Your foods, meals, calories, macros, weight, photos, goals and profile are never sent. Cheers are a fixed set of reactions, with no messages. Shared ticks and cheers are deleted after 90 days. Team › What you share › Leave all teams and delete, or Settings › Delete all data, deletes everything the server holds about you at once, and members inactive for a year are deleted automatically. This data is used only to show your teams' progress, never for advertising or tracking, and never sold.

Teams are for people 13 and over. Before your first team you tell us your age range (13 to 17, or 18 and over); only the range is kept, with your team profile, and deleted with it. In a team with anyone under 18, nobody sees Perfect Day or protein ticks. If you block someone, the server keeps that you blocked them, so it can hide them and their cheers from you; they aren't told. If you report someone, the server keeps the reason, any note you write, the team, and their nickname and emoji at that moment, so a person at miyou can review it; the reported member isn't told who reported them. If you delete your team data, your reports stay for review without being linked to you. Reviewed reports are deleted 180 days after the decision.

Snapping a meal (optional)

Only if you choose to photograph a meal, that one photo (resized, without location data) is sent to miyou's server and on to Anthropic's Claude AI to identify the foods. Nothing else from your log or profile is sent. miyou's server does not store the photo. Anthropic processes it under its commercial terms, which do not allow it to be used to train AI models; see anthropic.com/legal/privacy. If you snap a meal to log later, the photo is kept inside miyou on your iPhone (not in your photo library) and deleted when you log or delete it.

Nutrition labels and your foods

When you scan a nutrition label, it is read on your iPhone with Apple's text recognition. Only if that fails and you tap Read in the cloud is that one photo sent, as above. Foods you save from labels or type in are stored only on your iPhone.

On Android

The same policy applies on Android phones, with these differences.

Health Connect (optional). Only if you connect it and allow access, miyou reads active calories burned, exercise sessions and body weight from Health Connect, to add exercise to your daily budget, suggest how to fuel training and keep your weight up to date. It writes the nutrition (calories, protein, carbs, fat, and the fiber, sugar, fats, cholesterol, sodium, vitamins and minerals your foods list), water and weight you log, so your other health apps can see them. Only if you also turn on Recovery, it reads your sleep, resting heart rate and heart rate variability, read only, to compare each day with your own usual. This data moves between miyou and Health Connect on your phone only. It is never sent to miyou's server or anyone else, never used for advertising or to build profiles, never sold, and never used by AI features. You can change or revoke access at any time in Health Connect, and Settings › Delete all data removes miyou's copy. miyou's use of information received from Health Connect adheres to the Health Connect Permissions policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Speech. When you speak, your phone's speech recognition (usually Google's) turns your words into text, on the device where your phone supports it. miyou never stores the audio.

Nutrition labels. Labels are read on your phone with Google's ML Kit text recognition, which runs on the device.

Widgets. Home screen widgets show and update the same data, on your phone. Nothing passes through miyou's server.

Storage. Strava's sign-in key is kept in Android's encrypted storage rather than the iOS Keychain, and your own device backups (such as Google One backup) may include your log, under your device settings.

Account and backup (optional)

You can use miyou without an account. If you sign in with Apple or Google, miyou's server keeps only a random account ID and a scrambled copy of the sign-in ID; it never receives your name or email. If you then turn on backup, your data is encrypted on your phone with a key only your devices hold (you keep a 24-word recovery phrase) before it is uploaded, so miyou cannot read it. Deleting your account in Settings › Account deletes the account and the backup.

Sharing with a coach (optional)

If you invite a coach in Settings › Coach, you choose what they see: daily calorie and macro totals, your weight trend, workouts, or check-ins. Food names, photos, notes, medication and your account details are never shared. Your phone builds a short summary of only what you chose and encrypts it with a key made for that one coach, which travels to them inside the invite link; miyou's server stores and forwards it but cannot read it. Messages and suggestions between you and your coach are encrypted the same way. Nothing is shared until you confirm the coach who accepted your invite, and no suggestion changes your plan unless you approve it. miyou's server keeps a log of each time your coach's access was used or refused, without content, which you can see in the app. You can change what's shared or end access at any time: the summaries are deleted from the server at once, though your coach may remember what they already saw. If you report a message, the text you report is sent to miyou for review.

Subscriptions

Purchases go through the App Store or Google Play. miyou's server checks the store's signed receipt to unlock features and stores which plan is active; it never sees your payment details.

Crash reports (optional)

Off unless you turn it on in the Privacy center. When on, a crash sends a technical report to Sentry with everything personal removed: no food, weight, health data, name, email or device name. With crash reports on, about one session in twenty also sends how long the app took to start and to open screens (screen names only, no content), so slow spots can be fixed.

Usage stats (optional)

miyou keeps a few counts on your phone to judge whether it's helping: when you first logged, how often photo estimates needed correcting, how many workouts you finished, how many suggestions you accepted, how many meaningful actions you took each week, and how fast search and startup were. They hold no food names, amounts, weights, messages or free text, and you can see them in Settings › Privacy center › Your usage stats. They're in your data export and deleted with everything else. Only if you turn on Anonymous usage stats, once a week miyou's server receives that week's totals and timing ranges, with your platform and app version and nothing else: no account, device or install ID, and the server doesn't keep IP addresses, so uploads can't be linked to each other or to you. It's off unless you turn it on.

Exports

Export food log creates a CSV file, and Export all data a JSON file of everything miyou keeps, on your phone and opens the share sheet. Where it goes from there is your choice. Settings › Privacy center shows what is stored where and lets you turn each feature that sends data off.

Children

miyou is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal data from them. Teams ask for no real name, email or phone number, and refuse anyone who says they are under 13.

Health

miyou is a general nutrition log, not a medical device, and does not give medical advice.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will appear in the app and at the same web address, with a new date.
